'01 F4i at the track
3 Attachment(s)
So I had my stock F4i to the track over the weekend and I noticed I am extremely close to getting a knee down, but my pegs are touching before I can get low enough. I am told my body positioning looks on par for a newbie and that I should be getting a knee down. I came home and measured my peg height and it's almost 2 inches lower than my friends R6. Is it my body positioning that's off or are the pegs notoriously too low from the factory for track duty?
Here are some pics feel free to critique me! Attachment 28386 Attachment 28387 Attachment 28388 |
Are you sure it's the actual peg hitting? Is the F4i a bike that has huge "safety" knobs on the pegs? If so, it maybe due to those than the actual peg itself.

Take out few psi from your tires and practice in empty parking lot, get you butt all the way off the seat, speed can be low while trying to get knees down..

I think the pegs are low on the F series bikes. Remember, it's a "touring" bike and is supposed to be more comfortable than the RRs.
You may want to see if you can find some higher rear sets for the track. |
I should have been more specific the "feelers" on the bottom of the pegs were scraping. I am concerned about getting the rear set risers as I am assuming the peg feelers are set at a height in which you are maxing out the usable portion of the tire. I have 0 chicken strip on the rear and about 1/8th of an inch on the front.

I broke both the feelers off my stock rearsets on the street before ever making it to the track. That much lean angle would be an easy knee down if your BP was better. Don't concentrate on getting a knee down though, its a mute point at a beginner level. In the mean time go on to ebay and get the rearset riser plates. Problem solved!

Just get an aftermarket set of aluminum pegs. Theyre cheap and they don't have feelers. You could also keep your other pegs in case you ever need them. They're usually universal. I used some off of a Ducati and put them on my Buell. I had to open the hole for the pivot-pin a bit more, but other than that, they'll fit. |
The f4i does have low rear sets, I broke one of the feelers off and removed the other. At the track I scraped peg several times and my yoshi exhaust too. You can get rearset risers, make your own, or buy new rearsets

I was actually wondering the exact same thing. I just came off a track day myself and was scraping peg feelers. I felt like my body positioning was pretty good while riding and that I was hanging off quite a bit but the photos seem show otherwise. I may decide to remove the peg feelers for the next track day to give myself a little more clearance though.
