Any problems with these bikes? Thinking about buying and have found a 01 F4i. Reliability? How many miles do people have on them? Thanks

 

ive seen a few bikes roll over (100,000 Plus ) i think there is one guy on here with 144,000?? if im not mistaken.. i just bought my second one, treat them good and keep up with the oil changes and it be your best friend.

 

It's like any bike - maintain it properly and it'll last for longer than you want to keep it.

 

Well, if you don't speed, do wheelies, stoppies, endos or have any fun with them. They pretty much last forever, with standard maintenance. I ride around 4,000 to 6,000 miles a year. Depending on the weather, and my mood.

 

i got my 01 f4i in 05 with 5000 miles on it and now it has 30000miles on it its never givin me any problems i change the oil once a year and did a tune up at 20000miles. if you just do the basics on maintence you shouldnt ever have a problem with it

 

F4i's are built like friggin tanks.... no worries

Biggest problem with the F4i's (and Hondas in general) are CCT's and regulator/rectifiers. But you can replace the CCT with an APE manual to fix that for good, and then the regulator I dunno sometimes aftermarket ones are a lil better than OEM... but FWIW my original did last 100k miles


My '04 F4i just turned 146,000 miles tonight, and still running like brand new. Only major problem was a trans problem (jumping out of 3rd gear) that started at 114k miles. Ended up having to replace 2nd, 3rd, and 6th gears and the shift forks. I did it myself though so no biggie. Other than that just a couple little things, nothing of much significance. Bike has never once let me down or left me stranded anywhere!!

I say go for it..... F4i is a great bike, you won't be disappointed!

 

dam 146,000 thats impressive man, mine will never last that long i ride her hard and put her away wet

 

I'd like to see a picture of the 146K mile odometer, if you don't mind. Not that I doubt, but that I want to make sure mine will go up that high. :-P

Regarding reliability and issues, my issues have been corroded electrical connectors, but I wouldn't say that's a common problem; the previous owner most likely let it live outside. If you're worried, fill the connectors with dielectric grease. Other issues I've had are the Cam Chain Tensioner (APE fixed that), and a faulty speed sensor, which generally happens around 15K- 18K miles. Beyond that, I haven't seen or heard of any major stuff that's common across the board.

 

The odometer would only show 46,000 miles. It rolls to all zeros at 100,000.
