01 F4i Normal Engine Temp?

What is the normal running temp for one of these? I just recently picked up an 01 F4i, and feel like it's running a little hot. Gauge hovers around 190 running on the highway, and 200 in the city (granted it's close to 100 out). Also the fan doesn't kick on until close to 230. Just wondering if it's time for a coolant flush and some engine ice. Thoughts?

Those temps sound fine for watered cooled motorcycles, generally speaking. That's about what my 08 CBR 1000rr temps are when cruising threw the twistys and stop and go traffic. And yes my 2nd fan dont come on until 230. I dont remember when the 1st fan comes on. Also a coolant flush wouldnt hurt, especially if you dont know when it was done last. Your not going to get every single drop of old coolant out of the engine. What I have done is drain it, top off with water, ride it for a day or so, drain again, top off with water, ride it some more. Do that a couple times. It will get progressively less old coolant. Then put new in it.

It feels hotter than you'd think it should run but it's ok, try to ignore it.

Yeah I guess it just seems like it's sticking up there for too long. I'm grabbing some stuff to do an oil change as well, and think that might be a little on the low/old side, so that may help too.

Had an SV650 before this, and that thing stayed below 170 most of the time, and rarely ever hit 210 even at a stand still, so that's what I was comparing it with. As long as it's normal, I'm fine with it. Thanks guys.

F4is run hotter than some of the slightly older water cooled bikes. That sounds typical of what our members report - especially in the hot summer time.

Totally normal and no engine ice will lower the temps.

If the temp bothers you try the nissan 83 pulsar coolant temperature sensor mod. Allows your fan to turn on at 215 degrees. I like it better.
