Thats incredible that that cylinder still has the crosshatch pattern in it after 24,000 miles. I am really impressed with the level of engineering on these Honda engines. Even the crank bearings look great. Are those cylinder walls plated or sleeved? I'm guessing plated but one can't be too sure without actually looking at it. Will you be doing a full port and polish or just going to clean up the head?
My reasoning with the SV isn't really acceleration, but something I can comfortably ride longer distances while maintaining the sporty appeal.

Powerban:
That would be excellent, let me know what he needs for the head and we'll see if we can make it happen.

Eweppley:
Thank you, I know! I'll have to slow it down, I'm far too efficient for my own good! Things should slow down now anyways as I wait for parts and do some side-jobs to pay for them!

Elmer:
I was surprised at the crosshatching also, the cylinders are pristine.
I've never been inside this motor and I'm amazed at the simplicity when it comes to stripping it down and doing the work, very user-friendly engine.
Crank bearings price out to about $9 each which is pretty pricey x 10(sold in halves), then another 8 for the con-rod bearings - about $160.

I think they are plated, which would explain the low level of wear... But the cylinders are slightly raised from the casing so I actually don't know if they are sleeved or not, I've never worked on a sleeved motor so I don't know what it looks like haha!

As for the head I was just going to have it glass bead blasted, replace the faulty valve guides and have the seats repaired... Port and polish isn't worth it for the minute gains - if any, often intake porting loses power.

The SV650s is a great bike, if that's what you are looking for, but I find the F2 plenty comfy for long trips. I did about 1000km in 3 days on mine, with a passenger and I never really had numb-bum!

Well here's a little update, as you all may know I've moved away to another province and had to pack up my CBR in numerous boxes and thankfully everything made it over unscathed.

Since i've been here I have rebuilt the engine in my car which took precedence over the bike because I needed 2 vehicles and it was winter, so the CBR was out of the question.

Spring started to show its face, so I got impatient and purchased a mint F3 engine from a salvage yard. Low KM's and solid compression across the board.

After that it sat again for a few weeks while I dug into a new side job for cash, doing head gaskets on a Chev 350, my garage is now set up as a fully functioning repair shop, so any proceeds I make in the shop goes towards my toys.

I got motivated to work on the CBR again after helping a friend here (CKXtreme on this forum) with his F2. After hearing his bike running, I decided it's time to get the ball rolling on mine again.

I began working on the frame, swingarm etc. to send away for powder coating.

More work to come, just sourcing quotes for the work and slowly piecing together some new parts.

I called Pro SC motorsports for a quote on powder, and ceramic coating for the header... Just waiting to hear back from them.

I sent Jamie a PM last night but I don't think he responds to them, I'm probably better off going there or at least calling but I like being able to send pictures.

Weird.. I dealt with him through Pm the right up to giving him the bodywork. Last week I even saw with my own eyes that its all separated, repaired and waiting for spray.

Yeah I've pm'd him twice previously, he responded once saying that he'll get back to me, nothing after that... Even since my PM last night he has been online a few times but I guess he's ignoring PM's for now lol
