sounds to me like your pilot screw is a little on the lean side. if all that is really causing you to play woth jetting is a low end surge i would make sure that they are synced up before i started getting too radical. DJ's instructions are pretty spot on for most bikes. you also need to pull and read your plugs. this will tell you exactly what the jetting is doing. if you have a trouble spot like 5k, pull it to 5k for about a half mile and then shut it down and read the plugs, and adjust accordingly.
