removal of fairings and air flow problem?
Good day everyone.
I'm currently working on a streetfighter project and after removing the fairings and driving it, it seems to "lag" a little on the throttle response(like its not reving up normal and it "chookes" a little before blasting out the rest of the power), and i remember reading something about the airbox flow being different without fairings and maybe this is causing the problem? Its been standing almost still for 2 years, and its only been idling like 10 times and riden 3 times. |
Did you ride it before removing the failings? If so, did it do this before? The issues I experienced when riding without fairings happened during cruise speeds and etc. Idle and take off it wasn't there. I only ask to help narrow down the possible issues.
The airbox mod is necessary if you plan on running without fairings but that's a simple fix. My concern in your case is the time the bike has been sitting. Sounds like you need a carb clean and adjustment. Seeing as how the airbox needs to come off to mod anyway, it would be a great time to do it. All my idle problems and lag on take off was cured with a clean and tune. There's the sticky for carb cleaning in the tech section, and I'll look for the airbox mod thread and see if I can find it for ya. |
Thanks for the reply gtcole.
I didnt take it for a spin before tearing it appart(it was in the middle of the winter that i bought it) But the guy i bought it from said it ran just fine. And actually yes, it happens at cruise speed when i want more power. |

I'm on my phone so excuse the long link. In the street fighter section there is info on the airbox mod. You can try it and see if it helps. It is pretty much free so don't think it would hurt. If it doesn't you would probably be looking at some carb work. |
Thank you for the help, gtcole. will test this out as soon as possible.
as i see it i just need the get the t-line inside the airbox, seems easy enough. the link you posted didn't work correctly, so here is the same link as gtcole posted(working). for anyone else looking into this problem https://cbrforum.com/forum/street-fi...662/?styleid=2 |
I actually think I have an air related problem too. When I took off the fairings for my street fighter project she wouldn't and still won't idle no matter how much I open the idle adjustment. But she runs great as soon as I work the throttle.

Hi again.
I tok the carb vents and drilled 2 holes in the aibox for them to enter the box. This did not solve my problem. it still "lags". and before doing this fix the engine died on me 2 times, and 1 time after the fix. seems i have another problem too... This is beyond my level of experience. |
If it has been sitting for that long you'll probably have to pull the carbs and give them a thorough clean, the idle jets could be blocked or float valves might be sticking. You just wont know until you pull them and take a look. It's sounds more like a carb issue then the fairing removal.
Not sure which carb vents you mean. |
^^ what they said. Pull the carbs and give em a good cleaning. Then you'll have to set the pilots and you will be able to make tuning adjustments.
The vents he is taking about are the two L shaped hoses that just come out and turndown on the f2s. On a f2 that is running properly before, fairing removal has been known to cause similar symptoms. |
