Default rear shock stiff?

is anybody else rear shock rather stiff? I thought my shock was froze, so i took it apart and bought a good shock and replaced it and it still seems very stiff. The settings are all on soft, the ride height is all the way on 1 also. The linkage moves freely without the shock in there, so its not the linkage. Anyone have any ideas? Or is the rear end just really stiff, I weigh 230 and I can barely move it. Any ideas?

If your 230, you should be able to bounce that *** end like a pogo stick. Is this "stiff" while driving or static? Are there any sprocket changes already done? Did you buy used? Is it OEM? Does it have an aftermarket canister attached? Is it charged? Are you sure you set the adjustments to "soft"? Fill me in witht he details or maybe a pic of what you had and bought and i might be able to help you out.

its a 94 stock shock to replace my 94 junk shock. its stiff while static for sure, as far as stiff as driven i dunno yet, still finishing the rebuild. the previous owner went up 8 teeth in the rear, so as soon as my hugger is done being paint i'm goiing put a 45 on the rear instead. its charged and all the setting are soft i'm sure, i'm not new to bikes, just this one. i didn't know if the stock shocks were stiff to begin with, it might just be stiff sitting still, might be fine when I get it moving.

nevermind, previous owner mounted shock linkage wrong when he put new bearings in it. got it all figured out. Whats the average rear shock setting for a bigger fella like me?

FULL STIFF. I weigh the same as you and can bounce the bike very easily. You might have to get a stiffer spring (for both front and rear).

Damn, 7th setting of preload for just you alone? I only weigh 150 and thus use the stock 3rd notch, but I was on 7 and the bike vaulted me off the seat at every bump and I had absolutely no rear traction on corner exits. It was really easy to turn in though, hah.

I find that interesting... I weight 210, and my rear shock was painfully stiff. Ever bump was jolting, and I felt like my connection with the ground was very numb. Loosening the rear preload a setting or two made a huge difference!
