paid for F2 engine, recieved F3 engine I think???
 

I have a 1991 F2 with a busted engine, got a replacement engine which was listed for an F2 but I think its from a newer F3 BECAUSE:

-the oil pan is deeper and holds more oil?
-the oil strainer neck is a little longer and fatter which looks like it filters more oil
-there are some hard hoses right under the headers which are not on the F2 engine (looks like just a flat empty spot on the block on f2 engine)

I was wondering if my carbs will fit this engine? I tried to get my old headers to fit with the "hoses" and it seems like it wont work without some minor modification and they also may rest on the deeper oil pan.

whered you get the engine - pics posted anywhere?

Might be possible you have a Cali-spec motor, and all those extra hoses are part of the emissions system.

I just took this from the F3 manual of the front of a cali spec motor. I'm pretty sure you can de-emissions the motor if that's the case. We all know Louisiana could care less about smog controlled vehicles :-)

F2 appears to have similar hoses for cali-spec motors as well. I'm not sure how to positively ID the F2 from F3 motors - oil pans do appear to be different - that might be the giveaway.

I took the hoses off just to see and it appears as if they just recirculate something somehow. I looked up the oil pans and this one is def from an F3 but the hoses just dont make sense. On the old F2 engine it looks like there is a spot for the hoses they are just blocked off? I'll try and get pics asap

can you find the serial number on the block?

Should start with PC25E-what's the second group of numbers.

from what I can tell, the blocks are the same - the head is what's different. Non-California bikes don't have the openings for those lines (as you see on your stock motor.) Hopefully someone here has removed the Air Injection System (that's what those hardlines are for) and can explain what they did.

well I honestly think I can still mount my headers to it with SLIGHT modification so if I need to keep it on there I will. In order for me to mount them I would just have to grind down the little plate with that bolts it to the engine

Yeah - the problem is that there's no Air Injection System for those hardlines to connect to, unless an intact injection system came with the engine too.

The serial number is on top of the right side of the motor, over where the clutch cover is. Will verify if you're looking at a F2 or F3 motor.

I wonder if this system would even make a difference? Ill try and get the number tomorrow because its like 50 miles away rite now

Is there a link to look up the numbers? My bike is a 94 but the guy I got it from said the engines off of a 98. Not a big deal to me but it would be nice to know for sure. Here's the number from mine if anyone could tell me. PC25E-2502886. Thanks
