Default Ok So.. Carbs

I just cleaned my carbs thorrrrough. Completely disassembled them and pretty much spent way to much time. Put them back on my bike. and SCREEEAAMMMM. The idle is all the way down and the revs were takin off. So I figured it was the sync screws. so I kinda played with it till it ran some what normal. Let it sit there running for about 10 minutes. then I went to calibrate my motion pro carb tuner. Turned the bike off. then connected the tuner. turned it back on. The 1st carb was sky high ( well basically they were all out of wack). as soon as I adjusted the 1 and 2. it died. and wont start. So in a nut shell.

my question is . is there a default setting for sync screws just to get the engine somewhat operational before syncing ? like all the way in . 3 out. something along those lines ?

You can establish a baseline adjustment by "eyeballing" it. In case you haven't realized, by turning the carb sync screws, you're actually adjusting the position (angle) of the individual butterfly flaps. When you turn the idle adjust, you're technically adjusting the angle of the #2 (2nd from the right) butterfly flap. Then, by turning the other three screws, you're adjusting those other three flaps relative to the 2nd. So, probably right now you've got one flap closed all the way which is screwing with your idle.

By eye, open all the flaps roughly the same amount (maybe try and fit a .08" drill bit into the gap that's made) and you should be good to go.

okay So ONE more question Berga and Ill leave you alone. I did notice the position change of the butterflies. However. I just realized now beacuse you post that the number 2 carb is the one 2 from the right or 3 from the left. so the carb order goes (if I looking down at them 4 3 2 1 ?

Yes, I believe that's the correct order. Or even if it's not, let it be known that THE CARB 2ND FROM THE RIGHT (when looking down, seated) is the reference carb which cannot be adjusted.

And yes, you can do all this with the carbs still on the bike. Just push those black vacuum diaphragms out of the way and use a flashlight if you need to.

I have no positive insight to offer, seeing as how I know nothing about carbs, however, I would just like to say-carbs suck. That is all.

Good luck on getting your bike back together bro.

Thank you Supercivic. every time I circle my self with the removed parts and screws and springs and cleaner and frustration I realize this. But then there'ss something about when it all goes good that makes it feel like an art form

If you were having issues with the revs and the idle was adjusted all the way out, you need to adjust your throttle cables.
