Inoperative Activation of Brake Light ???
HI, looking for any ideas about an electrical problem. The brake light on my 92-F2 brake light will not brighten when either brake is applied. I replaced the front and rear activation switches, but the light is still not working correctly. Both tail lights are lit when the key is in the on position (also when engine running), but neither will brighten when brakes are applied. All turn signals work correctly, the headlight works on both hi/lo beams, and the gauges all work. I checked fuses, but they are all good, evidenced from all lights and gauges working... Any ideas of what the issue might be? :icon_emm:
thanks in advance... YB |
Did you check the bulbs? They're probably dual filament, so if by some chance both high-power filaments burned out, the parking light would work, but not the brake light.

I pulled them out this evening (still out) and they look good, but maybe I will replace them to make sure... They are dual element.
Question, do both light up when braking? Should they both be clear? One is clear, the other is orange... |
amber? Yeah replace that one. still shouldnt make a difference in terms of functionality though..

OK, mystery solved, tradgey averted.... Bought two new bulbs and plugged them in. Had them laying on the tail box, and they looked awfully bright... with a closer look, I realized that both filaments were lit. I adjusted the new rear brake switch and the bulbs dimmed. Application of either brake lit the second filament... Well, I got rid of the old rear switch that was too grimy to even move and a new front switch too... Thanks for the quick responses; a trouble shared is half a trouble...

Glad we could be of assistance and it was a simple problem! :icon_wink:
