I now see why everyone goes to the GSXR rectifier over the OEM style one...

It's an aftermarket OEM STYLE. They make aftermarket ones that differ significantly from the OEM one. Then there is the GSXR OEM (stock on a GSXR) piece. You can also purchase the GSXR OEM styled ones on ebay, they're cheaper than the F2 units.

I just replaced mine with the same R/R from an 03 GSXR. The only thing that is a little different is whenever I rev it, the headlight gets brighter. I don't ever remember it doing that when it had the original R/R on the bike. But other than that running like a champ! I might put a little CPU fan on the thing to keep it a little cooler. I saw that in another thread.

Mine is OEM and the headlight gets brighter when you bring it above 2k roms. I think thats just the way they work since 2k rpms or lower is pretty low compared with what they can be spun at.

And the photo of the OEM stock unit is what I have on my bike. No fins at all, which is why its a minor miracle that it still works. Also why people who see the GSXR unit are so impressed. ($15 on the Bay for mine a few years back)

ahhh the beauty of HIDs. less power drain then halogen, brighter lights & light levels don't fluctuate with voltage

My VRR fried shortly after buying the bike (& before fitting the HID), currently have one of the aftermarket 'small' ones. Time will tell .

Less power draw = greater demand on the rectifier to eat the difference.
