I get toasted! help! reg/rec connector

1992 CBR 600f2. I burnt my reg/rec. I believe the positive cable was not tightened down on my battery and I drove my bike like that unknowing

here is the connector off my parts bike, appears it had a connection issue as well. I was going to cut wires and use this for my bike...BUT...just the thought of cutting and splicing mortifies me...but what else to do?
. Meanwhile my little reg/rec was not able to manage the current and I cooked it and the connector. So...what to do? I bought a new battery, its in. Put an ohm on it and it shot up to 29 on the ohm, so...obviously I will get a new reg/rec, but what to do about the connector? Any comments are appreciated...Phil? are you there?

I did a modification/upgrade on 2 of my F3's Regulator/Rectifiers. It included replacing the connector from the Stator to the R/R. The writeup is below.

This URL is where I purchased the connectors.

You've got a couple choices.
1) You could get part of a harness off ebay or locally.
Pop your old wires out of the burnt connector with a screwdriver.
Clean up the contacts and then put them in the replacement connector.

2) or if your old wires/connectors are fried.
Then cut and splice the wires and connector from the replacement harness onto yours.
Use marine heat shrink butt splice with sealant to connect the wires.

3) finally you could do something like IDoDirt did.
His link to connectors will also probably have the connector you need.
He did a great job on his repair.

If you are running a original stock reg/rec or an ebay special, that is part of what caused this.
I always use the updated OEM honda reg/rec 31600-MV4-010 and have never had a problem a second time.
You can use a gsxr reg/rec too like IDoDirt did, but it's more work.

Be sure to use lots of dielectric grease on the connector when you put it back together.
It will seal and prevent the corrosion that can cause the connectors to overheat.

Thanks for the nod @Phil314 . Back when I did the F3's I don't recall if this upgraded R/R had been made available yet or not. If it had been, I don't think at the time it had been around long enough in years to actually establish itself as a reliable upgrade. At the time though we did know that the Suzuki's R/R's had bigger heat sinks and didn't fail like these did.

If I had to do it again, I would just use the one from Honda with a new connector. As you can see it applies to many models from early 1990's to 2006 and most everything in-between.
