How to test starter?

Hey kids... I've been in the process of streetfighering my 93 F2 ( me and everyones brother...:icon_wink:) read the build here... http://www.customfighters.com/forums...ad.php?t=26261

and hooked up my harness, plugged everything back where its supposed to go (well... almost everything...lol...) and when I turn the key to the "on" position.. nothing happens or comes on...

So I got out my multimeter and tested the battery... 12.75 V... good there... checked my fuses and one was blown... replaced it and checked the rest... all good..

still nothing so I follow the positive line from the battery and it goes straight to the starter...

So... how do I test the starter with the multimeter to check if its good or not..?

do I need to check volts or resistance..?

help a dude out!

Thanks!

well for one thing the positive lead from your battery shouldnt go straight to your starter, it should go to your starter relay. And off your starter relay should be the bigger gauge wire that goes to your starter, and then there should be a connector of either 4-6 wires (forget exactly how many) that clips onto your starter relay over the 30Amp fuse.)

Which if that connector isnt connected to your relay there wont be any power to your bike at all, OR if that 30Amp fuse is blown no power to your bike either. so check those first. off.
