F2 Fork Swap

Can anyone help me by telling me what forks would fit my F2 ,, She is a FM model ..
I have to replace the complete front end ,forks wheel etc .

Is it possible to press the stem out of the F2 bottom clamp it looks to be welded in ,and is there any direct forks and clamps that are a direct swap as in blade or similar .
The more straight forward the better ,,,

Thanks,,

There are a couple forks that use the same diameter tubes. You will prolly have to change the front wheel & brakes if you go that route.

Any F2 (PC25) fork will work - there were slightly upgraded forks used on the 1994 models.

F3 (PC31) forks will work, but to use with F2 wheel and brakes you'd have to use F2 lowers on the F3 uppers. Triples are the same for both F2 & F3.

If you do a full F3 front end, (or any other front end) then you'll lose your speedometer capability, as F2 used the front hub for the speedo, and later models used a sensor in the drivetrain or motor.

edit: the F2/F3 use 41mm diameter inner tubes. If you upgrade to USD's from some newer bike, you'll need the clipons for that other fork as well.

I personally have done a '98 GSXR fork swap, with 6 piston calipers. Hit me up if you have questions, oh here is a hint to what will fit the f2;

Honda:
'91 to '98 CBR600F2/F3, '06 to '07 EX650R, '88 to '90 NT650 Hawk, '90 to '97 VFR750, '92 to '96 CBR1000, '98 to '02 VTR1000/Superhawk, and '89 to '90 CB1.
Kawasaki:
'90 to '97 ZX6/R, '06 to '08 Ninja 650R, and '88 to '90 ZX10.
Suzuki:
All GSF400/600 Bandit, '88 to '97 GSXR600/750/1100, '99 to '07 SV650, and '86 to '87 GSX750/1100.
Yamaha:
'94 to '95 YZF600, and '87 to '88 FZR750/1000.

Of those, it looks like the Suzuki forks might be your best bets for performance and tuning ability.

If I were you I'd rock the forks off the 94 f2 Simple plug an play

underground-mpyre 01-29-2012 07:55 AM

I still have my f2 forks if you want them, $100. Obviously no use for them.

JNSRacing 02-28-2012 03:00 PM

Underground, what year F2 forks? have you sold 'em yet?

JNSRacing 02-28-2012 03:13 PM

And to Adrenaline Junky...I think I had heard before, that the F3 uppers were a no-nonsense direct fit to F2 lowers, I take it that's true? I'm takin' my ride to the track quite a bit this next season, and was just about to replace the seals and springs in my '93 F2 forks, but should consider going a little more advanced. The thing is, for now, I want to retain my front wheel-driven speedo.
If it IS an easy swap, I should consider F3 uppers, for sure - are there any advantages of the later year F3 forks? And, lastly, what adjustablility would I gain with F3 forks, over a swap to '94 F2 forks? As far as the older CBR's are concerned, my '93 F2 is all I've owned or ridden, so I don't have much knowledge on the F3 features - I know they are plentiful, but I literally don't know a single person with an F3.
Sorry for all of the questions, I had intended to go through with a Gixxer front-end swap, which would resolve all issues, but I'm running out of coin, and the season is soon upon us!

underground-mpyre 02-28-2012 03:49 PM

Yes, I still have them, '93 F2 forks. Just collecting dust. Needs new seals though. I installed a Racetech spring kit too in both forks. Thinking of throwing them on ebay if no one wants them this Spring. Straight and don't need them anymore after my Gsxr fork swap.

JNSRacing 02-28-2012 04:14 PM

Did you happen to do a write up on your GSX-R front end swap? That is what I want to do in the future, but like I said before, not enough money for this season, with all the prep and mods that are already in the works.
Did you get the front end from a 600, 750, or 1000? or are they all the same? I am assuming you just had to buy custom steering stem bearings? how's the offset and overall length of the forks compared to stock?

SALTY1 02-29-2012 01:22 AM

Hey I'm new here guys, what do i need to do to send a private message? and Id like to buy those F2 forks! Thanks guys

underground-mpyre 02-29-2012 03:10 AM

First, you must use a digital speedo(mine:Trailtech Vapor). Stock speedo won't work. You must use the GSXR front wheel and brakes w/ lever for the swap. It is a 1/2" shorter fork, but I use a 170 tire in front and like the control difference. The diameter of the forks versus stock is crazily different. The Gsxr is at least 1/3 diameter thicker and beefier. I ride really hard and abuse my bike in the twisties, my F2 forks would flex and drag my forks seals to break, had to replace them twice in one season. So the Gsxr swap was a no brainer. Go to allballsracing.com and they have a easy to read conversion chart to your swap going. It was easy and only $400 for the entire swap from ebay and I will never look back on the difference.

JNSRacing 02-29-2012 07:58 AM

Did you luck out completely, and find an awesome deal on the entire GSX-R front end, or did you have to piece it together?
I have heard about the conversion tool on AllBalls' site - I definitely am satisfied with their aftermarket fitments - I have their wheel bearings on front and rear.
And I know the stock instrument cluster will go bye bye at that time - I've been kinda scoping out the various digital instrument packages, but haven't done enough reading to decide between Koso and Veypor - I've been pretty impressed with the Veypor VR2's data logging capabilities.

underground-mpyre 02-29-2012 10:34 AM

Pieced it together, one part at a time. I went with the 6-piston calipers for better grab on the twisties. But the 4 piston are pretty good too for the daily commuter. The 600 & 750cc Gsxr forks from 97-00 are what to look for in the swap. 600's have 4-piston and the 750 have 6-piston. You will have mixed-match rims, but at 20mph no one can tell. I will argue all day long with anybody; you do the suspension upgrades to front and back of the bike and tighten the frame up, you will have one helluva 'Railgun'. The weakest link to the F2/F3's is the suspension and the frame. I rip on mine all day long and have pretty good techique in the twisties and I pass most of my group of experienced riders(most track ride).

hey underground or otherguys if you can help. I was looking to upgrade my f2 forks but I want to do the most simple upgrade. Im handy, but Im not sure what it takes to really swap USD forks over. I know I need the whole front end. But what I dont understand is. How do I get the stems and triple trees to work on my F2? Stem length and widths wont be different? Or is everything just dependent upon what bearings I buy? Basically, cant I buy everything, and it will work fine? Or do I have to go to a machinist for some spacers/washers too?

Thanks for the help guys

underground-mpyre 03-01-2012 11:20 PM

Everything from '91 to '94 will swap over stock. After that, they have "Stickies"
!

adrenalnjunky 03-01-2012 11:37 PM

94 forks are the best that will 100% work with no mods needed.

95 thru 98 F3 forks are slightly better internally, but the outer legs won't work with the F2 brakes. You. An swap your F2 outer legs onto F3 inners to have a direct bolt up with all of your F2 running gear.

Beyond that, it is like underground said, you have to start making a lot more changes to accommodate whatever fork u use.

Here we go again for the 2nd time for the bolt-ups list for the forks that will fit the F2/F3's. Now you will need to put the calipers and OEM rims on those forks that they belong to. Your dash pod will be rendered useless, so a digital replacement will be needed for the speedometer. You will need to go to the conversion chart on allballsracing.com for the match-up bearings for the swap. So please pay attention to this list for exact swaps for our bike;
