Polish (Gas Cap)

Ok I am awaiting a replacement Tank and it doesn't come with a gas cap so I'm planning on using my old one. Thing is, my old gas cap is oxidized big time. The previous owner obviously didn't polish his bike etc. so I have begun the process of trying to resurrect the beauty of the bike. I have been using Mothers Aluminum polish and my air compressed polishing wheel, followed by tons of elbo grease. It's starting to look good once again but there are a few problem areas which need more work. I have to be careful with the polishing wheel as it tends to creat heat so I polish with that a little, then use the old manual method. So far I have approx. 3 hours into polishing this thing and what a difference. I stand by mothers polish it's great! Hoping to have that cap blinding me from reflecting the sun soon. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Here is the Before Picture:
Sorry for the bad quality only have a cell phone camera but should give an idea/reference for the before and after pics.

RE: Polish (Gas Cap)

Ok here are some pics of the cap after massive hours of work. Hope it looks better here, it definately does in person. Still have work to be done on it.

These pics are after about 6+ hours of polishing using mothers Aluminum Polish.
Some of the hard to reach places are in need of more work still but I am basically doing the best I can while its on the tank. When I go remove it to replace the tank I will do some touch up if needed, Until then I'll just keep at it.
I have nothing better to do anyhow, it's raining here...... Bo0o0o0o0o0o!

RE: Polish (Gas Cap)

Thanks, Still alot to do but now that it's raining less...hehehe I have been giving my hands a rest from polising and started working my (_!_) out by riding again. Thos problem areas are such a pain and might just have to wait for when I remove the cap and replace the tank. Probably will be easier to get at them when it's off the tank. I'll keep at it when I get bored and post more pics of the progress. One thing I do regret though, polising it all up and making it pretty again, I really did get zapped by the reflection from the sun today while riding. LOL Sitting at the light I looked down at my handy work and <Zap>...yep it's shiney again. Can't wait to get the tank and throw it on. It won't match my body panels just yet as the new ones need paint and such but thats ok. It will still be an improvement even if it doesn't color match right away. A blue metallic tank on a red/white stock paint scheme, lol I can see the pointing and laughing now. Thats ok though, I don't mind as I know whats in store.
