Default Best Way to Clean Engine Cases??

What is the best way to clean the Engine cases on 87-90 CBR600F Hurricanes?
What products do you guys recommend? Do you think using a very fine steel wool on the engine cases is a good way to clean the engine cases without leaving marks on them? Im trying to get them to look like new.

Also what products work best to clean out the fuel tank. Old Fuel residue and rust and such? Whats the best way to scrub the inside of the tanks?

Also, is there a way to find out what exact types and colors of paint the factory used to paint the CBR600F Hurricanes?

Thanks

First out is the engine in the frame or out of the frame? Bare case or are the guts still inside? If you don't have to worry about anything getting eaten by chemicals (rubber bits / gaskets / wires) any engine degreaser or even carb cleaner will work. Simple Green is also pretty effective.

Big thing about gas tanks is to seal them after cleaning them. I've heard of people using stuff like CLR and some bbs, shaking it to dislodge the rust. But without sealing the tank after, it's just gonna come back... with a vengence. There are various products available to seal a tank. Just it.

as far as the tank, here ya go Northern Auto Parts : Gas Tank Liner Kit Repair Kit Fuel Tank Sealer

i've used that kit on a gs500 that had tons of crap in it, and it worked great. just be careful, there's some serious chemicals involved. its a pretty easy process though

i used sea foam, and rocks from a fish tank...put it in and swirl it around alot and dump it out, the little rocks will help remove any loose rust thats in the tank
