Hopefully this is the right outlet for this. I'm new to forums and am learning as I go so please bear with me. I have a 93 1000f. I lost the "right side protector mid fairing" on a ride. I went back through the route to see if I could find it with no luck...unfortunately. So I am looking to buy one, but it seems no one sells them, or has them. I posted a pic of the part in question. Also if anyone sees this and has any ideas of what I could do to replace it or add something there on both sides to make it look more complete let me know!
Ouch is right. I was hoping I could figure something out to go over that area, but no luck. I have all the plastics off now, but I don't think I like the look.... at least not unless I redo the entire front end "dash" area and the tail section. And that's a commitment for sure, I think I would have to do a lot of fab work (no big deal as I weld for a living) but I would hate to spend the winter modifying then hate it....
Best thing I can think of is fabricate a new part or find someone with the same part and make a cast and fiberglass copy. I've had to do a lot of that while building my 87 hurricane in progress the plastics were obliterated and held together with cable ties. I just bought a 1990 hurricane and I'm sure that will need plastic work too but seems mostly intact. There's plenty of ways to fabricate missing pieces depending on situation but when it comes to these bikes unfortunately you won't get anything over the counter or Amazon eBay or the standard places to look in my experience.
So I ended up going naked with the bike. I only have the front fairing on, and started to do some custom work to it. New tail light basically for now. The plan is to maybe make a "skirt" for directly under the front fairing that will be more or less for looks that comes to right under the seat and only down about 6" or 8". I am just going to customize to my liking and enjoy the ride! I love the bike for sure!
I was gonna go naked with my 87 but the tank isn't flush with the frame and needs a fair bit of tidying. I have a spare frame and engine for this also so I kinda wanna build a road legal stunt bike. But I can't find a crash frame and it's beyond me to make. So I figure I'll try to remake the plastics and create something cool. But if that fails I'll be following the naked or Street fighter route . Got pics of your hurricane?
I'm on the fence of stunt bike as well. I am a welder by trade, so that's not out of the question for me. I plan on building a low profile frame anyways just got added protection. I am going to be doing a dirt bar conversion in the next few weeks. I would also love to run dual exhaust, mostly because I like symmetry.
The biggest thing I plan on is building a new air box. I'd like to move the batter and computer and wiring further away from the wheel well, so id likely go with pod filters and make a box around them to keep the air flow about the same as it is now so I don't have to try and rejet and tune the carbs if I can help it.
Looks like a lot of potential. What's on the clocks of ya don't mind me asking. These things seem to go forever. Just found this hiding in a mechanics back shed and traded him a Yamaha virago for it. Got 30k on the clock so can't wait to pick it up when he has it ready for me . My new 1990 as I found her this week. Guy is gonna do the carbs tyres and service for me. Needed a shock which I took from my doner 750 My 87 being rebuilt . Took it all apart swapped in parts from a doner bike I have where needed. Replaced all damaged bolts redid the windscreen as it was split. Still more plastic work to do but makin progress. Lots of it ya can see primered in the back round . Removed rust from frame and subframe and painted it black again. Missing the center dash trim and the underbody but will fabricate something. Or if I can get a cage I'll stunt her
I have the original dual exhaust for these but one of them needs repair
