What to look for in CBR954RR 2002

I am about to buy a fireblade from 2002 with about 25.000 km

What should I look for?

Buying bikes, for me, comes down to trying to see if the seller is telling the truth about the bike.

There's nothing special about the 954 in that regard.

So check the VIN. Try to verify that the bike hasn't been downed (make sure radiator is straight, look for rash on stator cover, swingarm, swingarm bobs, frame sliders, etc.).

Check the fluid levels before you start the bike. Look at the tires, check the battery (under the seat). This will indicate how well the bike has been maintained.

Then let the bike go through the entire warm up process on the side stand. The bike should be cold when you get there. It should heat up until the fan comes on and should cool back down.

Listen for oddities when its running.

Check the fairings and engine casing for leaked oil, fuel, or coolant.

Verify the mods he's told you about.

Basically, make sure it's a bike you're comfortable buying.

If you're not confident in your ability to inspect the bike, take it to a reputable shop and have them go through it. It may cost a few bucks, but well spent to keep from buying a pile of junk or knowing the bike is sound.
