Valve clearance. . How fussy?

Ok, got it all apart and...
Only 3 are outside the .001 plus/minus spec.
Most are within .0005 .
Gotta take cams out anyways? so... Think I should get it perfect to spec?
Wonder if I should "spec" the Intake to the lower end of clearance for that extra bit of lift?
Exaust? They expand that much more and pressure works to that advantage.

Any old school WSBK or AMA tech's out there?

I tend to be very "anal"on builds, and want to no if there is any advantage to go that far on a street bike..

These valves tend to tighten with mileage, so erroring on the tight side of the spec would probably mean your service interval would shorten...

I would think you probably wouldn't notice any extra hp, but what do I know... Lift is lift after all.

The 'ol girl went 36000km without any adjustments (I'm second owner, original admitted to not having it done)
Was very well maintained other than that.
Have no problem going to extemes on maintenance IF nessisary.
Figure that's what winter is for in Canada :D ..

Yeah, if you don't mind taking the bike apart, its all good. Try it. But again, its from carbon build up that the valves tend to tighten. So with more miles, its more of a chance of it being out of spec.

Give it a try.

I would think that carbon build up could get on the face of the valve, causing it not to seal and increase the clearance at the stem.

When valves and seats wear from heat and pounding into each other for lots of miles, the valve will tighten up at the top.

Intakes can be run on the tight side, as long as they seal and have some room for oil to pass between the cam and the follower. Smaller the gap, less oil can get in there. Spec is what Honda says it needs to be and I believe them.
Exhaust is a different story. They are best left on the loose side of spec or they will burn and ruin the valve.

Decided to get fussy, gonna set intakes on the tight end and exaust dead on.
Have no issues with taking bike apart cause with Canadian winters,a warm shop help the cold go away faster!

You won't see or feel any gains from it. Just set them to the loose side because bouth of them will get tighter witj more miles.

Done to min spec . Sorry guys, I take a bike apart every year if I keep it.
If I stuff it into a "bad place" (crash)
IT'S parts. .
