Rear Lighting
To make a long story short, Im moving to Hawaii shortly. To ride a motorcycle on the Military bases over there, they have strict standards. My wife told me that the rear tail lights must be stock, or at least have the turn signals spread out close to 9 inches apart (gay). In other words, no flush mounts. I dont plan on getting another stock tail so I was wondering if there is somewhere I can buy a bracket and a set of those stock looking signals to mount on my undertail? I already did the rear pegs mod, but I heard it had to meet DOT standards.
Come on bobjoe, I know you got something in mind already.......[sm=feedback.gif] |
RE: Rear Lighting
what do you have laying around the house? any stock tail parts.. fab something up that is different but more stock looking comming out of the tail.. on my 600rr i did short stalks and put them on the tabs that are on the rear subframe/tail area i dont know if you still have those

RE: Rear Lighting
Thats a good idea. If you dont mind, can you post a pic so I can start the brainstorm. Also, I dont have anything laying around. Once I take something off, I either trash it, or ebay it. I guess thats a stupid mistake I made .

RE: Rear Lighting
Hey Doog just go to a store like Lowes or Homedepot and get some L shaped brackets that you can mount from like the subrame and just bolt the short stalk blinkers (cost you like 2 bucks for the brackets and like 10 bucksfor the short stalked lights on ebay). It will be sleek but itll still be kinda gay.....you know what its these damn dealerships and immature soldiers that have the mindframe like "i got 10,000 imma go buy me a brand new bike even tho i cant tell the difference from the front brake and the kick stand." It just messes everything up for experienced riders like ourselves! The Cav has a new policy and its g..... back to the subject....just try the brackets and see what you can come up with

RE: Rear Lighting
I have always had an undertail kit on my bikes and have never had a probably at any of my duty stations. Ft. Benning, Ft. Jackson, a brief stay at Ft Dix, and now Im AGR in Birmingham. I would do a little investigating before I changed anything.
When I went for the Advanced Rides Course at Redstone Arsenal I had my hotbodies undertail kit and they didnt say anything when they did their checks. +1 to what pimpcbr said about people ruining it for other riders. Every monday I get the email about what soldiers died where in motorcycle accidents. Then every 2-3 months, its 8 more hours of motorcycle safety classes for me. |
RE: Rear Lighting
I hear what you all aresaying, and trust me, I wont put anything on unless I have to. All I want is an opinion on how it looks?

RE: Rear Lighting
Maybe look into getting something like these.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Honda...spagenameZWDVW I pu them on my bike and I reckon they look awesome. And they're really bright as well so no chance of anyone missing your indicators. Only problem is you do have to drill out 2 5mm holes in your fairing to feed the wires through. But no issue I reckon cos they look great. Heres some pics foryou. http://photos-032.ll.facebook.com/ph...23478_6870.jpg http://photos-032.ll.facebook.com/ph...23480_7540.jpghttp://photos-032.ll.facebook.com/ph...23482_1701.jpg |
RE: Rear Lighting
Those are not bad looking, however, my mod will be more temporary than permanent. I really like the look of my tail now, so if I have to change it, i want to make it as simple as possible to get it back to the current setup. The idea of drilling into my tail leaves a sour taste in my mouth. I would rather drill into the undertail because if ever remove, its less noticeable. Thanks for the recommendation tho bro.

RE: Rear Lighting
Hey that doesn't look bad at all. Nice clean easy to remove, looks like you nailed it. I had a similar problem not military but riding in all weather, 365 in a four season climate, I wanted to be seen. I used a set of factory Busa signals my buddy ditched. With factory watts, reflectors they are brighter then anything aftermarket and they came with clear lens to boot to match the tail light. Not my favorate mod for looks but defenitely does exactly what I wanted as far as function.
