Questions about my 954rr

I just bought it and the guy that had it said he did the flapper mod. I think thats what he called it. Could someone please explain to me what this is and what it does. And would any brand steering stablizer be good for my bike or is their certain ones i should stick with.

Thanks, Clint D

the search function is your friend.. also a steering stablizer is a awesome idea.. but if you have suspension problems.. big them first or learn how to adjust them for your weight and skill. .dont just put one on as a band aid for other problems..

scott is a awesome brand.. or GPR i personally dont like GPR but there are 100's of brands..

I tried the search thing but all i keep seeing is weather people thinks it works or not. I don't care about that i just want to know what it is and how it would give you more power.

there's this little plastic piece under the gas tank that pulls air into the engine... at higher RPMs it opens up and lets the most amount of air possible into the engine... at lower RPMs it stays shut... the flapper mod means you have pulled the gas tank up and basically set the flapper up to be open all the time, and its rumored to give more horsepower at lower RPM... I did it on my 954 and I felt a little bit of boost at the very lowest of RPM but it may have been completely psychological

I did it on my 954 (flapper) and we ran it on the Dyno and it made a very small change 1 hp in low end so it does not do much.
I was running a scotts on my bike. I think I have one laying around if I do I will post it up because I do not have the 954 anylonger.

Good luck with the bike you will love it.

Yeah the whole idea with flapper valves, secondary throttle valves, and what not is to maintain air velocity. To maximize that to achieve more power threw out a larger rpm range. Yes by bypassing these things you may get more power just because you are removing a restriction are certain rpm.s but at high rpm's when these things aren't restricting at allll. it does nothing. All you've done is killed some power somewhere in the lower range. This is a race mod, since it is more important to save weight by not having a servo motor than low end power and drivability. This also goes with those exhaust pipe valves.
