Default New 954rr spitting black smoke & no high beams!

just bought a 954. got home and it had no oil in it . could this make black smoke come out when giving it gas? its shooting out black smoke and im not sure why. also how hard is it to adjust the fuel injectors? could i do it myself?

lights. when i push the button for the high beams they dont tun on. the blue highbeam emblem doesnt even turn on . does this sound like a faulty switch or bad wire? how do i go about checking.
any help would be awsome

black is gasoline

blue is oil

white is water/coolant (headgasket)

as a rule of thumb. definitely get oil in it. but if it's truly black smoke while you're revving it in the driveway, that's somewhat typical.

what do you mean adjust injectors? using a PC or fuel box - ya that's easy enough to do yourself if you get one

lights does sound like a switch problem (unless the brights have their own fuse) based on the fact the light on the dash does come on. check to make sure your connector at the switch is all the way engaged. after that, start checking the wiring

Well the black is worse than normal . I'll take a vie tommorow and post it . It's not like I've ever seen . I understand a little bit but this seems abnormal. I'm gonna get all new oil tommorow . And I'm not exactly sure what I mean about adjusting the valves. I was reading on a website people were saying the 954rr should have the " valves adjusted at about 16,000 miles." It has a power commander on it . Although I have no idea how to use it. My old bike was an f3. I also mispelled about the lights. When I push the high beam button . The blue highbeam emblem does NOT light up. I thought that might help pin point it . Any idea where the fuses are located on the 954 ? I just literally bought it today .

Fuses are located under the front seat.

oh! you mean valves. all you need is a day, feeler gauges, and the manual. you need to check them at 16k, but that doesn't necessarily mean you need to adjust.

you're measuring the clearance between the valve cap and the back of the cam lobe. if it's out of spec, you need to adjust the clearance by shims that go under the valve cap.

checking it usually isn't very involved, but there's a huge step in mechanical ability needed if you're actually going to adjust them.

as for hi beams, check your fuse first, then connections at the connectors. if that doesn't work, it's probably in the switch itself

well i went out and bought the repsol oil for it today a brand new oil filter and it had oil in it but not much. i changed it out and put in the good stuff up to par. i also replaced the air filter in it. put it back together and its still spitting black smoke. i also checked all the connections and they were fine for the high beams. i tried to get the bottom scre off the switch but i couldnt get it to budge . an suggestions? i dont want to strip it and be screwed. no pun intended. so am i better off getting the valves checked / done professionally? how many hrs am i looking at if i paid someone? im really not even sure if this is what is causing the black smoke im just trying to trouble shoot why. or does anyone know why or what to check? ill keep everyone posted. btw how in the hell do i get to the spark plugs???

zero out the power commander. - check that.

if you're still unsure about the valve check - just pay someone to get it done. it's not the cheapest job - i feel like it's somewhere around $300-$350 - i don't really know since i've always done it myself

just make sure you have the right screw driver and press hard into the screw and try not to strip it - that's really all you can do

Download the power commander software from their website, plug it up, and zero out all the fuel tables. Then check your plugs as they're a tell tell sign of what your problem may be. Sounds like a fuel issue. I doubt its the valves. Here's a link that will help you get to the plugs even though it's about the pair mod.

For the high beams check the fuse that's under the seat. Sounds like the bike is getting way to much fuel. Got out on good hell ride and clean the thing out could just be gummed up real bad. If that doesn't help at least you had fun doing it

Update: I mapped the commander and the black smoke disapeared but it now spits white . I've been waiting to see if it might clear up but its hasn't . After runnig it really hard today, i got home and heard an almost boiling sound. I looked at the coolant and barely saw any in it. I'm guessing this is a sure sign that I need a new head gasket ? Can I do it myself ? Or how much does it take to get replaced . I got the valveds checked they are fine. It's driving me nuts that the smoke won't go away. Anyone ever had one replaced or replaced one ? I've put almost 1000$ into it so far with tires chain sprocket inspection and valves .. just want it to be over already lol
