need advice on 954...

i was looking into buying a 2002 954 ..can anyone tell me about these bikes.. power, shifting, reliability, fuel injection.. is there any difference in power between say 954 and newer 1000..thanks

Very general question. What are you looking for in a 954 or new 1k? They are different machines. What type of riding do you or are you going to do? Is $$ an issue in deciding between the two?

ok..heres the deal..i wrecked my bike..im looking for another..under $6000.00. i use to have 07 1000 so i know what kind of bke they are... im looking into this 02 954..ihave never rode one of these. i was just wondering what the difference was in hp..torque..mostly street driving but do race at times....anyone can make that comparsion that have rode both..

Its rare that a person on here sells their 954 for other than financial reasons....Had mine since 05, she's for sale---->$10,000

the 954rr is like a f4i but on roids...it is lighter than most liter bikes, also some have raced, and beaten 1000's and also kept up in the corners too.

Ah man there's loooooots of debates all over the place (even on here) as to which one is a better machine overall ... It all depends on what you want out of a bike and your personal taste really .... The 1000 would have a bit more power and pull than the 954, judging from my limited experience in the saddle of the '06 CBR1000 and the fact that I have a 954 sitting outside right now .... the fuel injection is good on both bikes, as is reliability (i'm assuming you're sticking with a honda ... and if so, c'mon man .... its a frikkin Honda) ... I like the handling of the 954 I have compared to the 1000 that I rode for about a month, the 954 seemed to crave the lean of the corners more ... almost like a 600 would (seems like ya had to pull the 1000 down into the corners more than the 954 to me .. but i'm sure everybody is a lil different on how they like the cornering feel of a bike) ...

txsmainevent is probably really right about finding a nice used 954 ... it's hard to find one unless its current owner is in desperate need of money .... I know i wouldn't sell mine unless it was my absolute (and i do mean absolute) last resort .... Because its a good bike to have and keep ...

and that's my .02 cents on the matter ... :) either way, with either bike you're not making a very bad choice ... they're just two different flavors of the same kool-aide ... Go with whichever one you like and suits you best ...

Just wanted to add my two cents! Keep in mind that the 954 is the last of the "light is right" Honda's. The new 1k bikes have more power and are also heavier! I have ridden both and prefer my 954. It just lays into corners like a 600 on roids:icon_bike:

The 954 sticks to the original big bike concept that Honda started CBR900rr. :icon_oldskewl:

Can't be beat

I have had two 954's I loved them both. Stock the engine puts out 154 horsepower and you can feel it through all RPMs. The bike is lighter than most in its class. Generally they about 3-4 inches shorter than most bikes even 600's. they are wheelie machines so be careful. shorter wheel base can mean better handling but it is harder to get the bike to do what you want. Any one who rides mine says it is a workout. I couldn't recommend a better bike. They are rare so parts can be pricey
