Lithium batteries?
 

Hi All,

Can't find alot of people who make mention of them in the 929/954 (technically my bike is a 954 engine in a 929 body - but im not sure what the wiring from the battery will be). Anyone have any issues with lithiums? Only concern I have is the wiring supporting the higher cranking current they produce.

Hi Paul , think its really about pro's and con's. wiring shouldn't be a problem (apart from being old) .This video puts it in a nutshell

Yeah, i saw that video before, honestly didnt really think much of it. He really doesnt go into much technical detail and said a few things that were either wrong or showed he didnt really understand them all that well.

Like i know lithiums and electronics, its kinda what I do, so litterally my only concern is the wiring getting fried when its cranking (cant really find a good piece of info about what guage wiring is running around there).

Honestly though, i've not seen anything speak about lithium batteries in bikes in a way that makes them sound credible

For me its the cost not the weight, I'm happy just to use the standard battery along with its charger, I know where I am with those

I have 3 bikes with li-ion. I live in a cold region where the garage can get to -20F at night. That usually kills my lead-acid batteries if they drop below a certain level. That's not a problem with the Li-ion ones.

I give them a charge with a regular charger when needed. A charger with a de-sulfate circuit will kill them in a hurry if the battery is fully charged and the charger goes into de-sulfate mode. I don't have one of these chargers. A lead acid battery will last me 2-3 years. My oldest Li-ion battery is over 5 years old and is still strong. I will never go back to a lead battery.
