Default License plate bulb problem

I've had my 02 now for a month and noticed I had no plate light. So I replaced the bulb and it lasted about 4-5 days. It also melted some of the stock cover for the plate light.
So has anyone else had this issue or is there a fix for this problem? I was thinking of just going with an LED as the fix.

Any help as always is appreciated.

And why would you think an LED would fix this? Clearly there is a problem electrically. Check for shorts. Is the harness chopped up? I'd put a volt meter on the bike and see if your r/r is toast. Too many volts = heat = your problem.

Another option is too high wattage bulb (the prev might have been too, about 10w should do it. If the light or the structure it connects to is loose the vibration might have busted the bulb too specially if there was too powerful bulb in a confined space, doesnt take much to break a glowing filament. Although checking the voltage too wont hurt...
