Jacking my bike

Hey everyone,

Just inherited a 03 954 with some tapping noise(pretty significant) in the top end. The bike previously had some crome added the more bike and the shop who put it back together didn't put a gasget in. Then all the oil pissed out during the next ride. So I'm in the process of taking out the motor. However I'm at the stage right now where I need to jack the bike up

So my question here is, what do you guys use for jacks? I have a motorcycle jack but it seems to big to use. Since there is no frame on the bottom of the bike I'm at a slight loss.

This is my first bike so i'm learning alot and trying to do the right thing.

What do you guys use to jack up your bikes? I've been looking on-line for something that will work for the 954

I have the pitbull type stands. You can raise the front of the bike and put jack stands underneath the fork tubes. Just be innovated and safe....

Will those type of stands allow me to remove the suspension linkage?

So looking into this a little more it looks like i need a hoist or something that wraps around the frame and picks it to releave the tension.

How do they expect the normal person to do this.

If anyone else knows of something you would really help me out.

Hoist is what I use sometimes LINK Very same as this one

Thanks for the info, thats kinda what i was looking for and seems like a reasonable price.

What do you have your attached to. My garage has a room above it, plus i rent so I would probably have to manufacture something to hold it.

I used a motor hoist myself the first time i broke down my bike (tranny change). This time, I did not have that friend to borrow from. So, i have devised a system that worked for me, use two jack stands under the passenger pegs. This allows for the back end to be leveled and take the whole rear end off (swingarm, rim, suspension). But do make sure to have the front end off the ground or have someone hold it still while you drop those pieces off.

Why does the front end have to be off the ground?

my garage with a room above it also, has trusses, so I have a piece of steel
running through 4 of em

Use straps on the hoist hook to the bike frame and or triple

Usually hoist it and set it on a bench to work on at eye level
But handy for just pulling up the front or rear as needed
The 1000F's ain't light !
