Fuel pressure regulator

I stepped up from a CBR 600 F3 and just purchased an 2002 CBR 954RR but it needs some work. The bike starts and runs, albeit very rough, but is running so rich that raw fuel, actual gas, is being emitted from the exhaust onto the ground. I believe the problem is the fuel pressure regulator as the bike, to my understanding, has only been riden 2,000 miles in the past 7 years! I priced the part at around $94.00 and need some advise on repleacing it.

I lifted the gas tank and propped it open and can see the fuel pressure regulator but wanted to know if anyone has made a write up or how to guide on replacing it. The service manual says just remove the two lines from the regulator and unbolt it from the fuel line, but do I need to release the fuel pressure somehow before doing so? How does one go about replacing this part. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

In the manual it should say when removing that banjo bolt it removes pressure from the fuel tank.

I just took my tank off, and I didn't have any issues; however rememeber some fuel will come out so have a rag.

Yeah I don't think there will be much pressure on the system if any but as soon as I remove the FPR from the fuel line I guess I will find out lol. Unfortunately the part won't be here until sometime next week :icon_cankick: and then I need to get some tires. The bike should be good to go after that and I can't wait to take it on the road.
