Finally Cracking open my forks...
So I've finally acquired everything I need to remove the forks and get my compression and rebound along with the springy noise issues sorted out. From all the research I've done I believe it may just be low fork oil. The service manual I downloaded shows the fluid measurement when the spring is compressed should be 73mm from the top of the fork.... But I've seen posted in other forums that the OE level is 90mm and many recommend 90-110mm.... If the previous owner used those measurements I believe it could be the cause of my issue.
Where is everyone setting their level at? I plan on getting it as close to that 73mm as possible (okay so I don't have the fork oil measurement tool so I'll be macguyvering something) but I'm curious what everyone's thoughts are on fork oil level? |
split difference, use 81mm

Follow up... life got in the way so I didn't get a chance to do this until yesterday.
Oil level in each was low... Did the Dave Moss Dump and Run fork oil change method and only got approximately 275-300ml out of each one. Refilled to the service manual recommended level with Maxima 10wt and it feels SOOOO much better now. Also noticed a severe case of stiction with the tubes so I greased the seals ...they move smoothly now. Of course in doing this I discovered a few other jobs to add to my list... one of them being rebuilding (or at least thoroughly cleaning) the front calipers and getting new pads... pad thickness is fine (checked that before ever trying to ride it), but the material on the pad is super soft and part of it crumbled as I was separating them to facilitate easier reinstallation. Not sure what brand they are, but they definitely aren't going to be trusted once I finish getting her all fixed up so I've got some Galfer HH on the way. Adding stainless lines too once I get around to it. |
