Click noise from swing arm area...

What's up guys, just picked up an 02 954rr 7k miles.... my last bike was a 98 900rr, it's a whole different beast.

Anyways, I haven't had a chance to go over the bike yet but I took it out for a ride last night and noticed a slight clank noise coming from swingarm area. When I got home I pulled it in the garage I took a quick look and noticed only when I revved the engine to 2-3k rpm I can duplicate the noise repeatedly although I can't pinpoint the origin. I did not notice this noise while riding the day before.

I have yet to change all the fluids including oil and filter. Just wondering if anyone else has come across this issue as well?

Thanks in advance

Its most likely a kink or loose chain.
Check tension throughout the chain and see if you can find the tight spot and adjust to that / replace if necessary.

mine is doing the exact same thing. its a kink in the chain. i put it up on stand and let in run 1st gear to find it. i too just bought a 954 last sunday. i had an f4. it is a different beast for sure.

sounds like a chain thing to me too. but i wouldn't go by what you hear when the bike is on the rear stand. the rear wheel is turning under it's own inertia and as the motor goes from load, to no load, to negative load, etc, it's going to make the chain jump all around with the slack it has. manually inspect it for damaged links, make sure it has the proper tension, make sure it's lubed correctly

chains are noisy - remember that

I thought it was a chain issue while I was riding as well.... funny thing is I can duplicate the noise at a dead stop, in neutral, revving the engine to 3k rpm.

In the next couple weeks I plan to do a 520 conversion.... I'll let you guys know if the click noise persists...

Last 2 times I rode it the noise was not there.

Until then, thanks for all your help!

well if it's in neutral at a complete stop - it's not the chain then. the counter shaft isn't even spinning at that point. some of the cogs inside the tranny are spinning that are on that shaft - but the shaft itself isn't spinning when in neutral.

any way you could possibly grab a quick vid of it, and put it up here. that'd help me a little bit
