Default Bought an '02 954 2 weeks ago... bone stock. dyno'd tonight.

always wanted a bike.... so i sold my pride and joy, the love of my life... my jeep... and bought my buddy's 954RR... he was the original owner and put almost 3600 miles on it since new.

picked it up two weeks ago and i've put a thousand miles on it since then and slowly but surely i'm getting better on it.

i have plans of what to buy next but for now i wanted a baseline dyno and tonight their was a mobile dyno setup at our local shop so i forked over $25 and did 3 pulls.

125WHP. dunno what rpm he stopped pulling or what gear he was in but the mph was 140. we are at sea level. it was 80 degrees with 80% humidity.

i'm kinda upset about it since when my buddy owned the bike it did about 10 whp more supposedly but i know every dyno is different and weather plays a big part in it....

for comparison a slightly older model gsxr 750 with slip on did 90whp, the same style 600 gsxr telefonica edition or something like that with exhaust and not sure what else did 94whp, a stock 08 busa did 166whp, and a 01 929RR with intake, exhaust, and power commander did 120whp.

thought i'd share and say hello all in one post.

so... Hello.

I agree. I'm thinking that Dyno was jacked. Regardless, the bike looks awesome. I love the all blacked out look.

And don't worry. I can promise you that you will have so much fun on this bike that you won't remember you owned a JEEP.

well i'm kind of figuring the guy with the mobile dyno had the correction set to show somewhat low numbers so that those who dyno'd and were upset with their results would go to him to up the power and see positive results... that or maybe he unintentionally had some settings slightly off?

who knows. either way, i dyno'd it b/c i wanted to see how much power i gain from each of the coming mods and a consistant dyno is more important than high numbers, in a way..... but either way, i don't think a mobile dyno is the most consistent and reliable choice... i'll probably get another baseline done at the local shop i've been visiting... but for $25 i couldn't pass it up last night.

i've been having a blast on the bike so far. only issue i'm having is the local honda dealer... they truly are the least customer service oriented dealership i've ever visited... aside from that however, i'm pretty enthused with my new hobby can't wait to bolt on the two brother's next week!

-Erik <- has already spent more on mods than he would like to admit

Welcome to the forum...

"new hobby" huh ? I wouldn't get too worked up about power right now. I'd get some good leathers / gloves / boots / helmet etc. and learn how to ride first. Take an MSF course.

Too much power + inexperienced rider = dead squid with cool mods scattered all over the highway.

"I keep telling my co-workers it's NOT a toy. Unless your idea of a toy is a loaded AK-47 with a hair trigger." you can quote me

Unless you're Mat Mladin, Ben Spies, Troy Bayliss, Valentino Rossi etc., you won't be using 125+ horsepower that effectively anyway, not unless your idea of fun is being chased by every cop in your area.

954 is probably not the best bike to "learn" on anyway. Be careful out there.

do it big or don't do it at all has always been my motto i can't start anythign with less than the best i can afford at that time...

i've got a great helmet, leathers for winter, textile jacket and jeans for summer, a+ gloves, etc.... taking the msf next month according to my registration slip, and i'm doing my best to NOT get carried away with speed just yet.

so far so good though.... i'm loving it [8D]
