The 954 and RC51 will have the low end torque you desire. They are both good choices but you should ride both before purchasing.

Me personally, Im a huge fan of the Ducati 9's/7's. If price wasnt an issue when I bought my 954 I would have purchased the Ducati 916, 996, 998, or 999. Just couldnt see myself paying upwards of 9,000 for a 916 when there was a beautiful 954 was only 6,800. Im personally not a huge fan of the RC51, the v-twin is the sh*t and the dash cluster is the sh*t besides that not to huge of a fan but it still looks good.

PHXf4i, Support your vote for the RC-51. What about the RC-51 do you prefer? Have you been on the CBR954 as well as the Ducati 748?
I'm not knockin' you. Just hoping you would explain your vote for the RC-51.

The 954 has plenty of bottom end ESPECIALLY if you are comeing off a Harley. My DR650 thumper has more nuts than the V-Rod a rode the other day. If you get a 954 and learn how to ride the bike to even 60% of it's potential I think the Harley will be religated to those " LONG " rides to the watering hole with the friends. [sm=pimp.gif]

They are all very good bikes, but they are totally different bikes, my guess try to ride each of them, and see what fits you and suits your riding style.

I own an RC-51 as well as a 954 now and have ridden the 748. I was going to buy one not to long ago. I was VERY dissapointed in the 748. I have ridden the 996R and what a far cry fronm the litre bike twins. If you ride a 250 the comparison may be close. The 748 will handle like a champ. But you will be most impressed witht he RC. I have learned that the 954 is very light upfront when looking for top end and very twitchy in the corners like my R1 and R6. So steering damper is a must for the 954. I have a HyperPro on mine.
So in a nutshell,
First: RC-51
Second: 954
Third: 748
