929 stator in 954

Ok, so I've dropped the 54 on the stator cover and cracked it( 3rd time) ordered new cover, again, and it has the wrong stator bolt pattern, again! (too small.) :icon_doh:
I know the 929 and 954 have the same cover except for the stator mouting on the inside. I was sent the correct part #11321-mcj-306, so it appears the previous owner put a 929 stator in the bike. I don't mind putting different model parts in/on the bike ( after all, I put a VFR swingarm and a 1000 undertail exhaust on it) But is there any reason he might have made the stator switch? I've put lots of high rev miles on it with no reg/rec charging or battery problems so far. All info and help is appreciated, thanks!

You're right, the ACTUAL stator is different. There's no reason for the switch - he may have dropped it too and it was a cheaper option for him at the time. It's up to you as to whether your keep it or not. I'd call the dealer, or wherever you bought the part, and change it out for one that will fit the stator you have (I believe the cover is cheaper/easier to find than the actual stator). However, it does beg the question that if this is the 3rd time you've dropped it/replaced it, why is it just now that you're realizing it's a 929 stator and not a 954 stator?

I'm all about swaps - post some pics of your bike. I'd love to see the viffer arm and 1krr exhaust. Did you use 1krr headers? I'd love to see how the hug the motor (I know they sit closer to the engine than the 954 headers) The only thing about my 954 that isn't modified is the actual transmission. Every other area in the engine (plus every other part on the motorcycle) has been swapped/modified!

First time, I epoxied. 2nd time, new cover from parts place. Called about the difference, they replaced with the "correct part" and no explanation. 3rd time, I figure something is amiss. So now I know. Thanks again for the info!

No leaking issues? You may want to check around the block too where it connects and stuff for hairline cracks in the actual case. 3 times is a good bit, plus that doesnt count how many other times it was replaced, at least once so it seems. No leaks I assume??

I tried a 954 to a 929 and it wouldn't fit so idk your saying you've been driving it with it switched already? odd it don't work vice versa
