Default What's Your Opinion on Ordering Fairings

I'm In the Market for a New Set of Fairings for my 929. And I'd Like to know what's your Opinion for a Good Website to Order a Set. This is my First Bike so I haven't had to buy a Set Before. I've Heard that the over Sea company's japan/Hong Kong where the ones I needed to stay away from.

My opinion would be that they all suck. Even your "american" based companies are only middle men. I bought a set through cbrfairings.com (now apparently out of business). Their company was only 15 minutes from my home, and when I asked them if I could pick them up in order to offset shipping costs, they said no because the fairings come direct ship from China.

So the complaint about the ebay ones - are the same ones that those companies buy and sell. They're just middle men in order to cater customer service. But the fairings are the same.

I bought a set of repsol fairings. And they were okay. They fit okay, but they didn't flex (an issue), paint started to crack, and the decals started to pop off. Also, the backs of the fairings were not finished. So on the top fairing, I had blotches of white, orange, and black all over (not the prettiest).

Then you have to paint the tank to match any of the fairings that you order.

So, all in all, it worked, it was okay, but I'd advise you to piece together an OEM set off of ebay for the color scheme of your tank. It'll take longer probably, but it will be much better. Post some pictures of your bike the way it is. That would help me tell you what's worth it and not.

I concur 100% I bought mine from auctmart because cbrfairings closed, For me the paint was so brittle that it would chip and crack during fitment. You best bet is to save and take your time, either buy used OEM or go with sharkskinz /airtech-streamlining and get them painted professionally. Conrice speaks the truth, listen to our mistakes and don't do it!

There are some decent ones out there. Just make sure they are injection molded, & not the ABS plastic.

Most all of them are ABS injection molded. Even OEM are mostly ABS, its possible that there are a bit of different components in the resin but they are mostly ABS.

To add further, most companies if any at all will only say "ABS High quality plastic" or something like that. They are not going to say hey there is this much percent this and this much percent that. But like the top two posters said. There is cheaper methods to the injection mold that they use to make these cheaper fairings using **** paint prolly and and limitied coats etc.

Theres a reason why an OEM fairing set is 2000 plus dollars if you want a brand new OEM replacement. Cost is everything from the manufacturing process to the quality control. And to the OP, Japan is where our bikes come from. Japanese make good stuff, mostly. Its predominately the chinese products that are subpar.

There is nothing like the fit, finish & look of OEM fairings. That being said...there are some decent aftermarket fairing kits available. Will update with a link tmro,

Took me a bit to find it, but I would go with this company. We have used these in the past with good results. They are not factory, but they fit a lot better than those Chinese fairing kits.
