I think I only pay like $11/quart for Amsoil full synthetic at my local dealership. I've done the Rotella thing before in my older bikes, but I am a strong believer in you get what you pay for and if you have a nice bike you care about then just bite the bullet and get the right oil. My 07 only gets the good stuff

Been running standard Castrol for 20+ years, in all 4 of my various bikes.
I have never had a problem.

The only thing to watch for, motorcycles have a wet clutch (sharing the oil
with the engine). Do not use any of the 'slippery' formulations with
teflon/etc additives. They will lubricate too well and cause clutch slippage.

This straight from a petroleum engineer buddy, "The only reason to change
the oil is the blow-by gases from combustion, combine with the inevitable
moisture content in the oil to create corrosive acids that are bad for the
engine. Modern oils are not subject to enough degradation from gear-
shearing to degrade the performance. The difference in performance
between brands is practically nil."

The critical factor is to have oil in the engine.

Rotella t6 in the blue bottle is what's in my bike. $22/gal at wally world. Mobil 1 in 10w40 is also fine. Yes, its a car oil, but not an energy conserving type. Last time I got it, it was $26/5qts.
I like synthetics.

What everyone else said about the oil but just a bit of advice from me and do what you will with it. I am a cheap guy by nature but when it comes to my motorcycles I dont mind spending the extra money for the best plugs, oil, brakes, and tires. It gives you an added peace of mind as well as confidence in your motorcycle doing what it is supose to when it is supose to.

Your pride and joy and you all want to put the cheapest **** in it you can buy. I dont get it. If youre that broke and you cant afford $20 once or twice a year then maybe you should rethink owning a motorcycle let alone one that is as high of a performing machine as a CBR. JASO-MA is what is required by Honda for use in thier machines. Shell Rotella happens to meet this certification. The T6 variety does NOT. The other diesel oils do not either. Don't believe me, got to Walmart and look at the bottles for yourself. Honda GN4 is about $20-24 per gallon at your local dealer. Suck it up, buy the best you can get.

Aye, last night I didn't have access to a camera with enough quality to capture the whole label while being able to read it, here is the full label.

my apologies. when someone said T6 I thought they were referring to the blended oil. maybe the synthetic blend it is called t 5? so yes, the full synthetic and regular dino oil is compatiblefor use in motorcycles.
