Slip on Pipe Installation help
 

Hey... New to the forum. I purchased a 2000 929 a few months ago and Im looking at a few mods. Still have to get rid of the ugly fender and I already replaced the stickers on the bike. The bike came with a Hindle slip on pipe that sounds great but looks like crap. I bought a sweet looking scorpion pipe brand new online and attempted to install it myslef. I was able to pull the hindle pipe off but when I went to put the new scorpion on it doesn't quite fit. It seems I need an extension peice or something. I was told it fits a 929 and 954. It has three bolts on it where it should attach to the mid pipe (the hindle didn't have any bolts). Does this mean it's a bolt on not a slip on? if so does anyone know of what extra part I need to make this fit. I've attached pics of the bike with the hindle pipe and the scorpion pipe slapped on that doesn't fit.

Sounds like your Hindle is a full system. It's hard to tell from the pics, but if your Hindle doesn't have bolts, but is held on by springs then it's a full system. This would mean that the whole thing would need to be switched out.

The stock setup uses a three bolt flange on the midpipe to connect the pipe (bolt-on). Every aftermarket system I've seen uses a slip on with springs (for the 929).

I have a header and HTEV (valve) for the stock system if you're interested. I could ship them as cheap as possible. I already sold the midpipe, sorry.

Honestly, I like the look of your Hindle better, but I'm a pretty "non-flashy" kind of person. I'm sure that the performance would probably be better with the Hindle as well since it's a full system. However, if you're interested in the exhaust pieces that I have, just PM me and I can work you out a really good deal.

Thanks for the reply. Actually the hindle doesn't have bolts and isn't held on by springs (at least from what I can tell). I litterally just took off the harness that wraps around the pipe and holds it in place and pulled the pipe off. I'm not very mechanically inclined so not sure if that was the right thing to do. I guess I'm going to take it to the shop and ask what I need. BigMike, I'll PM you if the shop guy the header and HTEV (valve) is what I need.

Yeah, from the pic it looks like the exhaust that is on there right now has hoops on both the pipe and the muffler itself. These are for springs if that is correct. Springs get stretched between the two hoops to hold the muffler on. If you could take closer pics, I could tell you for sure.
