Slack in the throttle

How much slack do you guys have in your throttle i have somewhere between a 1/2" to a full inch of slack before the throttle cable actually grabs. I dont think its the normal amount of slack because all my friends bikes are twist and go there is just way to much play in mine.Any suggestion on how to fix it or is it normal?

Thanx
Joe

RE: Slack in the throttle

Well I can tell you that is not normal. On a stock throttle assembly, there should be like 1/8th of an inch of play in the cable. There are a couple of questions that come to mind after reading your post. Has someone adjusted the slack nut farther out at the throttle body(s)? Is there a problem with your throttle tube? Has the cable been re-routed? On mine, there is minimal slack as mentioned above. Hope this helps ya in the right direction of diagnosing and repairing. Be sure to post up what it was once you identified the problem.
