Default New To 929 Oil Change Questions

I just bought a 2001 CBR 929RR with 21K miles and I want to go ahead and change the oil.
1st-Do I have to un-bolt the header to remove the oil filter it looks close?
2nd-Someone said a Puralator oil filter for a 350Z will work is this true?
3rd-I dont know if the previous owner run synthetic or or dino oilso to be
so to be safe I'm going to run synthetic. Can I use the 10w-40 Royal
Purple oil that Advance Auto sells for cars? They have it on special
now and will save me about $20 if I go this route.
I know these questions have probably been asked before but I am having trouble with the search function. Thanks in advance.

If you have stock headers you don't have to pull the headers to get the filter out. I have heard of having to pull aftermarket headers though.
I have no idea about the 350z filter, I jus use oem
I doesn't matter if its synthetic or not. Do not use oil for a car as this can cause clutch slippage because of the detergents used in car oil. I have been personally running Shell rottela T 5w-40 diesel sythetic oil with great success for a couple years (diesal oil doesn't have the detergents like car oil) and its only $15 for a big jug. Compared to mobil 1 for bike which is like $15 per litre.

Oh, Lay carboard or lots of rags under the headers when you take the filter off, it will be messey.

Thanks for the reply, I went ahead and used the Shell Rotella as you suggested. By the way the 350Z filter was a perfect fit, it has just a little more capacity than the oem filter. It took almost 4 qts for the change and filter using the 350Z filter.

I make a little trough with tin foil so it will catch the oil out of the filter.

I use a strap wrench type tool for the oil filter. I have aftermarket headers and cant get a oil filter socket to fit between the headers and filter.

looks kinda like this:

also if you're good with tin foil or folded cardboard, you can do the the whole oil change without removing the plastics.

The only time I had to remove fairings on this bike, is when I had a fiberglass sharkskin lower on it. I can see however if a guy has HUGE hands, he may have an issue with getting to the filter.

Stands are a key element in getting off the ground too. It helps.

I picked up my filter from my local autozone, or was it advance auto. Is that a good idea? They had the bike on file and everything.
