Default new to the 929 and have a few questions

[sm=hiya.gif]
Hello from NH!!

I'm about to pull the trigger on a 929 and I'd like to know if there are any known issues or specific areas to look at with this machine. I have not heard of any problems in my research but that doesn't mean people haven't seen various issues.

The bike is a 2001 RR with about 17K miles on it. I imagine it's due for a valve adjust, coolant change and brake fluid changeat the very least.

Do you know ofanything in particular that is questionable quality-wise on these bikes? They seem fairly stout but I just want to be sure.

TIA

Welcome.

Valva Adj is at 16k. You can have it checked, but most bike's end up not needing it. Quality is top notch on these bikes ! The chain cam tensioner can start to make a lot of noise, you can replace it OEM or with a manual one. It's not a huge deal.

There is very little that goes wrong with these puppies. Motor-wise they seem to be Honda-bulletproof: mine has close to 60k kms, one locally has over 100k. You may not have to do the valves for a while.

There were two clutch related recalls. One was specific to 2000 models, so you should have that one done, the other is really only an issue if the clutch gets abused.

There have been a few issues with stators being cooked. That seems to be the luck of the draw (mine went just recently, the 100k bike hasn't missed a beat).

Otherwise, there are just the usual preferences things: seat, end-can, etc..

Thanks for the info and the link!

I saw the punch marks mentioned in the article. Is it safe to assume that if I don't find the same markson this particular bike then the recalls have not been performed?

How would that (or should that) affect the asking price if at all?

No effect on the price. They are minor, and free.

There's no catch on the 929, its a rock solid bike for the most part. Assuming previous owner kept up maintenance

Well I'm feeling pretty good about this bike! PO just did a tune-up and chain/sprockets...I need to get the details about the "tune-up". I haven't physically seen it yet but the pics look very good!

Tomorrow is show-n-tell...
