Default maintenance questions

just had a few maintenance questions for the fellow 929 riders out there. this is just a total curiousity thing that came to mind while servicing my bike today.

1. chain slack. the decal on the chain guard says 1 and 3/4 inches of play. does anyone else think that it looks like your chain is about to fall off? i usually set mine at about 1 and 1/2 inches or a little more. what does everyone else set their slack at?

2. tire pressure. i had my bike up in the air today (adjusting and lubing chain) and checked my tire pressure while i was at it. i realized that the pressure would read greater on the ground with the weight of the bike on the tire. which is the right way to check it?

3. chain lube. the manual says to lube the chain every 600 miles. that seems like a long time to me. i clean/scrub my chain and re-lube it about twice as much as recommended. i know it doesn't hurt it but am i wasting my time cleaning and lubing so often?

Default RE: maintenance questions

1) I like my chain to be about 1 1/2 inch of slack that way I don't have to adjust it to much if any when I have a passenger.

2) Measure the pressure when it is on the ground, best simulates the actual use of the tire and as you have seen it chagnes it slightly due to the weight of the bike.

3) I clean and lube my chain about once a month, sometimes twice, depends on when I feel that it is time to do it.
