Default Load Rating for 929. Am I too heavy?

Okay so I got a 2000 929, I just bought new tires for it with a load rating at 73 which is 805lbs I believe. I never thought twice about this before but I'm 6'3 and about 270lbs and my wife is about 160. I'm confused by the load index and not sure of the weight limit of the bike. Are me and my wife too heavy for my bike?

That's quite a bit of weight to put on it. Other than maxing out the load capacity of the tires, the load capacity of the subframe and suspension come into play too. I've put similar weight demands on mine before and things didn't feel very good. Never again...

It's great that she wants to share the motorcycle experience with you, but it's just not the right bike for 2 up with those weights. Perhaps she should get her own ride or you have another bike that can better suit your 2 up needs.

RRs are just not designed for that.

During my fatboy days I used to ride 2-up on my F4i, but I have Ohlins suspension on it and can crank up the preload. Handles differently but acceptable. With a

I was hoping I could do some suspension uprgrades to help the situation as well but I guess if it's just plain unsafe then no more 2 up.

At 270, you should upgrade the suspension anyway. When it was new, 17 years ago, it was set up for a 140 rider...

Take a look at the little bolts holding the aluminum tail frame on. When you put 160lbs and calculate the leverage on them, you will see how dangerous it is for her.

At 430 pounds total weight (don't forget to add gear), you're over the max load. If memory serves, the max load on a 929 (or 954) is 360 lbs. That includes riders and any luggage.

I currently own a 954 and used to own a 929. I weight 200 and my wife weighs 135. Add gear and we're close to the max load. We rarely ride together (she has her own bike). Riding 2 up on a 954 isn't a great experience. Short trips are ok, more than 45 minutes gets pretty grueling for both of us.

Yea, I had a 954 before this 929 it's actually the one in my profile pic we rode it all the time but unfortunately that was a couple years and pounds ago lol. Guess I got the winter to loose some weight.
