high idle

I have an 01 cbr 929rr. I just started experiencing problems wit a high idle. I start it up and it runs fine but after a few minutes the idle should come down but it stays at about 3000 rpm. I think it might be in the thermostat or radiator but I have no idea. Anyone experience this problem ever? If so any help would be appreciated. Thanx

Hi mate it has nothing to do with your rad or thermostat have you tryed the idle control screw under the left hand side of the tank i could be that simple or yoy could have a sticky butterfly

RE: high idle

I found a conversation on this topic on another site.

I would have suspected the so-called "Fast idle wax unit" which senses coolant temp and influences idle speed. ( by the way, joe200803 is absolutely right - definitely check the warm idle speed and attempt an adjustment with the idle screw - no tools needed, it's the big knob on the left side of the bike, just under the upper frame and just behind the engine. If it's grossly mis-adjusted, it will override all the automatic fast idle controls.)

On the site I mentioned, though, somebody said they suspected the wax unit, but another guy urged them to have the start valves synchronized first. I read the procedure for that in my manual, and it's probably best left to a shop. Vacuum gauges with adapters and tachometers involved - also have to lift and support the front of the tank, etc etc.

Hope this helps.

I know this is years old, but 2 times my bike has done this, both times my coolant was low.. I'm pretty sure you start bike, it runs up to 3k, once warmed up, it drops down.. well to know it's warmed up, I'm thinking it looks for coolant temp, if there's not enough coolant for it to read temp, then it stays at 3k trying to warm up.. this is my guess anyway, I just know fact, mine has done this about 2 or 3 years ago and this year, and both times has been the first time I start the bike since winter, and then remember to check coolant and can't even see it in radiator, fill it up.. start bike, drops down to normal idle..
