this may sound stupid but did you check your fuses since you changed the regulator? and i also agree that the stator and the regulator should be replaced together when either goes bad.

Hi. I had the same problem. My 929 would die/not start with the starter slowly cranking and fuel pump really weak sounding. Put it on the charger, it starts, but then either dies when I stop somewhere or begins to die while running. The Honda manual gives pretty good troubleshooting tips. So I check the stator and its shorted to ground. Buy a new one, and the bike seems to work well for a while, but then battery wont hold a charge. Found out the stupid shop I was buying from was giving me the wrong battery (part number) for the 929. Got the right part number battery and never had a starting issue since. Hope this helps. BTW: If you buy a stator some aftermarket ones wont have the factory connector, you gotta splice it, so I got the factory Honda stator which was 'plug-n-play'.

i had the same problem with my f4i when i had it... changed the R/R, changed the battery, stator was putting out enough voltage, narrowed it down to probably a corroded ground wire in the system but sold it before I found out for sure...
