forced air system...
question for everyone here.... I just got a 2001 929 and am doing the few things it needed done that the last owner neglected. i noticed it is missing the forced air ducts and cowls that close it off... basically it is just the two openings under the tank that go straight into the air box.... will this harm me riding it at all? any help will be much appreciated. and if i need these where is the best place to get them?

RE: forced air system...
if it is like a 954 and i think it is, there is no am air ducts. Just two openings that wrap over the frame up under the gas tank. I know you think honda would do something for ram air but unfortunalty they didn't.

RE: forced air system...
so it will not hurt to not have the plastics there that are normally there. still will get air flow i suppose... i wasn't sure just wanted some opinions

RE: forced air system...
no, that is the way the air intake is designed. I have a 03' 954 and that is how mine is. You would think honda would design a ram air type of intake but the they didn't.

RE: forced air system...
I put a aftermarket ram air system on my bike that works awesome! Don't know if you can still get them but try it here www.hardracing.com

RE: forced air system...
Just to clarify - take a look here -
http://houseofmotorcycles.bikebandit...e~CBR929RR.asp - are items 17 & 18 the ducts you're referring to? |
RE: forced air system...
Yes they are. That is the design of the airducts.

RE: forced air system...
yeah i saw those on ebay... but i just needed to know that if i don't use the upper plastic to close them off then it won't hurt the bike? or should i buy the top of the air duct plastic?

RE: forced air system...
Ok, I think I know where you're at now - you're talkin about items 19 and 21 here -
http://houseofmotorcycles.bikebandit...e~CBR929RR.asp I can't believe it would have any appreciable effect on the engine or it's performance to run without them. But I usually give the nod to the manufacturer and it's engineers - I try to keep the bike fundamentally stock. I'd buy em and put em in. Looks better too. ( I oughta add that I have nothing against improvements like Commanders or exhaust system mods, but in your case something is MISSING and no improvement has been made. ) ( god, I even wear MYSELF out !!! Six, shut UP already....!)) |
RE: forced air system...
I just bought a 929 as well, but mine had the plastic pieces that cover the air ducts, but I had to take them off temperarily, which brings me around to my point. The guy I bought mine from put aftermarket clip-ons on the bike and when you turned the handle bars left the brake lever hit the plastic and my brother dropped my bike doing a slow turn the day after I bought it. You really couldn't turn the bike past straight or it would hit the brake for you and throw you off. Luckily it has frame sliders so there was no damage at all. So I took the plastics off so I could steer until I can afford to buy some stock clip-ons which clear perfectly, so maybe you have the same clip-ons on your bike that mine has, which from looking on the internet I believe to be vortex clip-ons, and the guy took them off so he could steer like I did and thats why they are missing. He should have kept them and sold them with the bike but that is a possible theory. Hope that is helpful in some way. Good luck!

RE: forced air system...
Oh yeah there were no adverse side affects from taking them off that I noticed, everything was the same except I could steer.
