engine oil????
It is obviously my first time changing my oil on a bike before and I was just wondering what is the best kind of motocycle oil to buy? any particular brand that works well?

I went with Mobil 1 full synthetic and purolater oil filter

RE: engine oil????
I switched from Honda oil to Mobil 1 full synthetic 2 oil changes ago. works good.
Oil is a touchy subject for some people, i just change it every 3k and don't worry bout it. |
RE: engine oil????
the brand of oil you use isn't as important as changing it regularly. i looked at my owner's manual and it shows oil changes every 6,000 miles but there's no way i'm going more than 3,000 miles without changing it. just keep it changed regularly, and don't use any "generic" oil brands (like O'Reilly brand oil or something like that), and it should be fine. i've used Mobil 1 synethetic in the past (not on my current bike, it's not ready for synthetic yet) and have been happy with it, but i've also used Shell and Castrol synthetic and they're just as good. if you run non-synethetic, make sure you pick something that's made for motorcycle engines because passenger car oil isn't formulated to meet the demands of a motorcycle's engine. i've been using Valvoline 10w40 motorcycle oil and have been happy with it (my 929 is only at 3300 miles so it's not ready for synthetic yet).

RE: engine oil????
I know I've beaten this to death in other threads - but a good synthetic is fine, just steer clear of oils that say "Energy saving", as these have "friction modifiers" that may adversely affect clutch operation. I use Shell Rotella Full Synth, 5-40. So far so good.

RE: engine oil????
I just put Amsoil in mine 2 weeks ago. Used Mobil 1 racing before that. So far love Amsoil better. Smooth, and did a lot of research before I went Amsoil. Just touched over 29,000 miles. And I think she likes the Amsoil better than Mobil 1. I also use a filter from Napa auto parts.
