Electrical Problem? Help/input needed

Need help/input. I have a ’00 929 that has some issues; she’s being a little slut right now. One of the mods on her is a tech box for the Hindle pipe, but I don’t think that would contribute to my problem. I did post in a previous thread, which was somewhat relevant to this.

Whenever I turn the steering column to the right, the “Fi” and the “oil” light comes on and the bike cuts out. There have been multiple occurrences where the bike cuts out while riding, in which first the “Fi” light comes on, then the “oil” light, then the bike cuts out. When I notice this, I pull the clutch in and rev the engine, which saves the bike from cutting out.

My bike is at my buddy’s shop, who’s trying to fix her. Initially he thought it was the wires from the ignition; he changed that and the bike cut out once during a ride. He believes it’s the CDI (sp? I don’t know what that means, but he said it’s the brains of the bike….I don’t know much about bikes internally, I just ride them).

Has anyone had this problem before? And if so, what was the problem?
