ECU 9v input - which pin ?
Hi guys
I have a 929 which won't prime. To cut a long story short I'm down to the 9V input from the pink wire & the zener diode from the ignition. Interestingly, my ignition (which is stock) has the mounting point for the diode but when I got in there there was NO DIODE and NO PINK WIRE. There's no pink wire from the ignition to the connecter. Gone. Sooo, it must have been getting 9 v from somewhere - because it ran fine for 6 months. Now I have the service manual and it shows the pink wire going to the grey connector of the ECU . On the diagram there appears to be only one pink (only pink) wire to the ECU. I want to test that wire - and possibly hook up a 9 V battery to see if that's my issue (rather than going hunting for the diode that is hidden god knows where in the loom). Can anyone confirm the 9v input pun number on the connector before I go hacking about ? Thanks - |
Does your bike have the HISS system? It may not have the pink wire security system if it does.

Hiss
Thanks for the reply Demon It does indeed have the HISS system - But I thought all the ECU's had the 9v (not 12) input.... This is a Euro 929 -
I thought every injected bike (F4, 929, 959 etc) was equipped with an ECU that would not fire without a 9V input (rather than 12). I've checked everything else and that's why I ask. |
The 9v input is on USA bikes without HISS. It's an attempt at security. HISS is that and so much more. I wouldn't think that they would need both, but I could be wrong.

to Zener or not to Zener
Soooo - I found out that the Zener diode does not exist on HISS equipped (euro & aussie) bikes. The Demon was right !
So my question has changed ! If the ECU is good, all the relays are good, the bank angle sensor is good, the fuses are good and the fuel pump is good, where should I start looking for no fuel pump prime ? Carmho electronics (who tested the ECU) asked me if the HISS light comes on when I switch the bike on. Is that the big green light on the dash ? |
I can't really answer much about the HISS system. We don't have them here, so all I know about them is what I've read on the forum.
But if your key code is not picked up and decoded by the ecu, it certainly won't start. |
Thanks Demon - I think it lights up as it should on the dash - I'm going to test the voltage on the relevant wire - which will confirm that it is working.
Cheers ! |
I just found this as was at the same point of playing hunt the diode on my 2002 CBR 600 F4i Sport (UK)
My primer doesn't kick in either. Did you get this sorted? |

Sorry for the late reply - nope. Still searching.
I have eliminated: Relays - all tested, all fine ECU - sent to Carmho - clean bill of health Bank angle sensor - tested - fine. Fuel pump - works from direct battery feed Diode on the fuse box - tests fine All fuses are fine So I have the loom out and I'm testing it. I fear I may have to remove all insulation and check it all. Something tells me it's not the loom. It's in good nick and everything I tested so far for continuity (Power to the ECU socket, earths etc) tests fine. No corrosion or melting on the famous connector blocks etc). I think there's something like a busted sensor somewhere which is why the ECU is not letting the bike start. I will report back as soon as I find it. I suspect your problem is more simple. Start with the relays & fuses and abnk angle sensor. There's a two part video on Youtube with a canadian block which is excellent. Good luck - PS - UK ECU - no diode. HISS doesn't need it. |
Thanks, same, sorry for the delayed response, been waiting for no rain at weekends to look at this as I don't have a garage.
Fuses seem OK, Ignatian is working just no pump. Had to abort again today due to the weather. Do you need to remove the tank to get to the pump wiring? Or could I get away with just removing the fairing? Any update in yours? |
