CBR 929RR new clutch install
Hi Everyone,
Just thought I would share that I purchased a Barnett Clutch kit (friction discs, steel plates, springs) from ebay for about 130 shipped to my door.
I purchased a new oil filter, high temp liquid gasket, and new oil to go with this job.
Job was very simple. The most challenging part was finding a torque wrench that handled the 9ft torque required on the springs. I actually couldnt find one for the job at either home depot, VIP, or autozone (usually my go to source). I ended up buying one from Sears Craftsman that was a 3/8 drive.
The second challenge, was removing all of the old plates and friction discs from the clutch basket. For this I used some very small pumpkin carving tools to carefully lift them out enough to grab with my fingers. Worked like a charm.
I havent started it up yet as I wanted to give plenty of time for the gasket to harden. I will let you know how it goes!
Sorry, didn't take any pictures, but I used the FSM as a guide and there are pictures in there. I would say this is a easy-medium job for those of you questioning your ability. It is very cool!
I would say the job took about 2 hours tops (with a nice thanksgiving lunch in between); however, I was working on a few things at once on the bike.. This two hours does not include 1 hour additional set time for the gasket and then a second tightening of the crankcase bolts, but that took five minutes once the set time was complete. Also, there is about 24 hour recommended cure time for the gasket.
