bouncing the rev limiter

So, I made my first misshift with the new race pattern shift. Putting the hammer on in second, I quickly shifted into third -- nope that is first. Bounced the limiter, locked the rear up, blew a cloud of smoke out the back reported my bud, whipped in the clutch and continued on my merry way at a more subdued tempo.

Everything seems to be fine. The motor starts, runs well, etc. Any thoughts on things to check or should I just assume that the motor can handle a little of this kind of abuse? Any of you racing types have any thoughts on this kind of mistake?

1 up 5 down huh? yeah it takes some time getting use to. I personally think you really need to ride it on the streets to practice multiple up and down shifts to relearn this new shifting pattern.

the down side is that you won't be able to get a second opinion on how your bike rides because you have to explain the shift pattern to anyone that rides or even works on your bike.

everything should be fine just don't make it a habit about it.

Thanks guys. Good to know that nothing major damaged.
And you are right about the practice -- I have been doing that on the street for the last two weeks or so!
Funny how that can all go away in the rush of the moment and we are back to old habits.

I guess they call it learning ;-)
