Default Approx miles to one tank of fuel?

Hey, new to the forum. Have an 01' 929 and I'm only getting about 130 miles to a tank before the fuel light comes on. Any ideas as to what may be the problem?

Also the speedo keeps switching back and forth from kmph to mph and it's starting to drive me crazy. Does anyone know how to make it stay on mph so I dont have to bust out a calculculator to know how fast I'm going?

Your mileage is normal depending on what kind of riding you are doing. If it is a mix of HWY and CITY, thats avg. I can get about 150 before my light comes on if I'm doing strictly hwy and goosing the throttle every now and then.

As far as the gauge switching back and forth, I can't help you there.

Your mileage seems about on par, that's about what I get give or take. As for the switching thing, if you are zeroing out your mileage on the tripmeter you may be hitting the wrong button that changes readout from kph and mph, I did this when I first got mine, of course if you're saying it switches while riding and you don't touch it, then I haven't got a clue, bumps jiggling a wire? That's a tough one, helpful huh?

Thanks for the info on the gas milage. As for the kmph and mph yeah I've noticed that if I push "B" it will switch back....but you're right it switches back and forth while I'm riding without me touching anything. The switch also changes the degrees from fahrenheit to celcius. I have no clue how to get it to stay on MPH and fahrenheit. Any help with this issue would be great.

It sounds to me like the buttons are malfunctioning. Or there is a short in the instrument cluster that makes it change. I would watch e-bay. You can get a cluster on there all day long. Just replace it and I'm sure your problem will go away. I don't think its a real common problem seems how know body is saying they've had the same problem.

Before you replace your speedo, try repairing it. If you're comfortable soldering that is...

When I had mine apart to change the LED colors, there is just a simple tact switch on there. It could be shorting from engine vibrations or something.

Dont replace a whole cluster because of a $0.29 switch.

Check out the bare board here:

Its the switches below the horizontal row of un-lit LEDs

If you can unsolder yours and can give me measurements, I'll even give you a part number for a new one. (I work at an electronic parts distributor)

It would most likely be something like this:

Trf- thanks for your input. I'll get in contact with you if I end up pulling the cluster apart.

On that note...if you're capable of repairing...I'd go that route too. It would be more time effective for me to replace. Who knows what else I'd tear up, or what crazy idea I would create in the process of fixing it.

About the gas mileage. Can this be improved with a PC or is that for performance?
