Default 929 vs 954????

929 vs 954

my question is this, I usualy check this site www.bikez.com for my info and I was doing a comparison between the 929 and the 954 and the numbers don't add up, they have the 929 making more hp and tq than the 954? WTF?

are these numbers correct?

the other thing is that I was looking at SUPERBIKES on tv and there was a guy that had a RVT RC51 that said it was the bike he always wanted but couldn't get when it first came out but he ended up "SETTLING" for a 929.

are the RC51's better than the 929's? I know they are 1000's but they are V-twins, I can't find any hp and tq numbers for it?

rc51 have around 118 hp and 72 tq. I think its a vtwin thing b/c duc owners also think their bikes are teh greatest. my dad had a tl1000s that put out around 106 hp and it wasnt even a challenge for the 929. its kiinda like a jeep thing that nobody understands.[sm=icon_rock.gif]

The RC51 was heavier by 50 pounds, lighter in horsepower, a little less torque, a V-twin stead of a purrin' smooth 4.

Yet people swoon over the 51. I guess dscort is right - it's a "929" thing -

Either way, I did a ton of research on the 929 before I bought one - (I'm an old man who originally thought he wanted a chopper or a Hog ) - and the more I learned about the 929, the more I wanted one. And I am SOOO happy with my '01.

that answers one part for me, what about the the hp and tq compairison between the 929 and the 954? if you look at the site and compare the 2 the 929 is putting out better number from a smaller displacement

I think theres's not much of a difference, it boils down to the rider's skills....

I've owned an '01 929, an '02 RC51 and now an '03 954. Loved the 929 all around. The 51 had an awsome chassis, brakes, racey feel to it (you don't feel the extra pounds) but the twin while fast was not very thrilling not to mention the whole thump, thump thing. Keep in mindthe RC 51 was developedto bea race bike. The v-twingenerates smooth power delivery which is what counts on thetrack. I don't race and I like the snap of an inline 4 so it didn't really suit my taste. Then the954, I loved everything about the 929, plenty of power, ease of use, fun bike but I think the 954 is like the 929 plus one. It feels more responsive, snappyand more nimble to me. I say for all around use go with an inline 4 and either one will satisfy.

To answer your actual question, the 954 makes more power. According to Motorcyclist it threw down 132hp at the tire. The 929 in a test from 2 years earlier threw down 121hp. I've seen HP for the 929 supposedly push 129 at the rear tire stock so it depends on what day and who dynoed it. Either way, the 954 makes more, but both should be sufficient to provide smiles for some time when you crack the throttle open.
